Choosing a link building provider is partly about price and partly about trust. These questions help you compare agencies fairly and avoid the common problems.
Eight questions to ask
- Where will my links be placed? You should be able to see or approve the sites, or at least receive the live URLs afterwards.
- How do you choose sites? Look for answers about relevance to your niche, country and language, not just numbers.
- How is the price set? Prices differ a lot between sites. A clear quote before you pay is a good sign.
- Do you guarantee rankings? A trustworthy agency will say no. Rankings depend on many factors outside any agency’s control.
- What link type will I get? Publishers decide whether a link is dofollow, nofollow or sponsored. Ask what is possible for the site you are buying.
- Who writes the content? Find out whether content is included and who reviews it.
- How will I be kept informed? Expect live URLs and a way to check order progress.
- Who am I dealing with? A real address, phone number and email, and clear terms, are basic signs of a genuine business.
Warning signs
- Promises of a first-page ranking or a fixed traffic increase
- Very large numbers of links for a very low price
- No way to see where links appear
- No clear contact details or terms
- Pressure to pay quickly without a written quote
Match the agency to your niche
Experience in your niche helps, especially in sensitive areas such as gambling, where many publishers decline content. If you have a specific country or language in mind, ask whether the agency can place content there.
